Abstract

The depletion of natural resources and the deterioration of the ecological situation are among the key global problems that threaten the social-economic well-being of future generations. In addition to being valuable, rare, and often non-renewable resources, they are increasingly a source of sustainable competitive advantage, primarily for the tourism industry and resort areas, as they are their main source. Even minor climate changes have a significant impact on the direction of tourist flows, the frequency and duration of arrivals, the profitability of the industry (as a result of changes in the costs of heating and cooling, snowmaking, irrigation), as well as on the rate of economic growth and social attractiveness of the region. The concept of development of the tourism industry is increasingly focused on achieving an optimal balance of economic efficiency with minimal environmental destruction, which requires an integrated approach, that is, the transition to a resource-saving economy and the introduction of ecosystem processes in enterprises in the process of economic and investment regulation. In addition, the correlation between the environmental rating and the share price of companies suggests an ever-increasing need for rational use and protection of natural resources as a condition for the long-term development of enterprises operating in resort areas. This article is devoted to the research of the actuality and worth of the companies’ social-economic responsibility during their functioning, and also analyzes the dependence of this factor with the ecosystem approach to increase the competitive position of the resort region.
